Human Rights Day 2015: Freedom from Violence for Refugee Women and Girls

29th January 2016
Newsrefugeewomen December 10th marks both Human Rights Day and the end of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence Campaign. In this Eldis Gender Guide update we look at the intersection of these issues and ask - how do women and girls experience and respond to displacement as a result of conflict? And how do they access their human rights in these extremely challenging contexts?

The update provides a collection of resources addressing these issues which focus on Syria and surrounding countries, as well as other conflict-affected areas such as Colombia, Sierra Leone and the Gaza Strip. We also build on the previous update we created at the start of the 16 Days, which features many more related resources. Throughout the campaign, we shared a range of new information on gender-based violence, education and militarism through this Storify.
