The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) delivers world-class research, learning and teaching that transforms the knowledge, action and leadership needed for more equitable and sustainable development globally.

Based at IDS, the Sanitation Learning Hub (https://sanitationlearninghub.org/) is a participatory and action-oriented research programme aimed at promoting and facilitating timely, relevant and actionable learning in the sanitation and hygiene sector. The Sanitation Learning Hub (SLH) does this by identifying, developing and disseminating promising ways forward that lead to equitable and sustainable outcomes. Central to the work of the SLH is adaptive learning and action research; using, testing, evolving and spreading approaches and methods which generate timely, relevant and actionable insights to keep policy-makers and practitioners equipped with ways to keep in touch and up-to-date with grounded realities.

The Hub is seeking to recruit a Research Officer to undertake research and learning activities in the sanitation and hygiene sector. The role will involve undertaking action-orientated desk-based and field research (when travel is permitted), facilitating workshops and supporting ongoing rapid action learning activities.

Applicants should have a postgraduate degree (or equivalent work experience), a good knowledge of current issues and debates in the WASH/sanitation and hygiene sector and excellent research and analytical skills. Applicants should also be passionate about improving sanitation and hygiene as well as have an interest in participatory methodologies and practice.
