About Peaceful Change Initiative (PCi)
The Peaceful Change Initiative (PCi) works with communities to prevent or reduce the violence that has been triggered by radical and divisive change. They aim to mitigate the effects of violence on people’s lives while laying the foundations for long-term peace and stability. Founded in 2012, PCi is a not-for-profit network, registered in the UK, with operations in North Africa, the Middle East and Ukraine.
The principal aims of the organisation are:
To save lives by building what is called ‘Social Peace’: reduction of violence and stronger relationships within local communities even during wider conflict
To help mend fractured societies by creating and training country-wide networks of Social Peace practitioners
To assist international governments and organisations with an analysis of how their work may help to resolve (or inadvertently to fuel) a specific conflict.
PCi is a values-driven and impact focused organisation. They seek to operate as a dynamic and flexible organisation that actively seeks out and responds to peacebuilding opportunities.
PCi’s strategic goal is to expand into a limited number of new geographies over the coming three years and establish themselves as a centre of excellence with respect to peacebuilding methodology. The Director of Programmes is a core member of PCi’s Leadership who will be at the centre of driving this expansion into new geographies.
The post is responsible for providing effective leadership to and oversight of PCi’s programmes, ensuring that they are fully aligned with their strategic plan. S/he will represent PCi at a high level, managing key strategic and funding relationships and spearheading PCi’s efforts to provide thought leadership within the peacebuilding field.
The Director of Programmes will ultimately be responsible for developing and growing PCi’s programme team and ensuring they are highly skilled, motivated and supported to deliver on the organisation’s shared vision.
The ideal candidate has:
- Substantial experience in a similar leadership role with responsibility for a fast-paced programme portfolio being delivered in complex environments
- A strong sense of initiative and a proven record of conceptualising new projects and driving delivery against project plans and milestones
- A leadership style that inspires, addresses conflicts in constructive ways and fosters a positive culture of accountability
- A strong team leader who can unite a team located in different countries
- Experience and creativeness to act as a robust thought partner to the CEO in both strategic planning and problem-solving
- A demonstrated capacity to lead programme discussions on peacebuilding impact and methodology alongside substantial experience in setting up monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning processes
- Experience in fundraising and contract management experience; from qualifying opportunities, through to preparing proposals with strong theories of change and negotiating contracts with donors, to effectively onboarding new projects.
S/he will be:
- A strong networker who actively contributes to generating fundraising opportunities for PCi
- An active contributor to debates in the peacebuilding field, acting as a catalyst for thought leadership
- Aligned to PCi’s values and able to express this in their day-to-day work
- Passionate about PCi’s work and peace-building.
